FyPDF — PDF & file conversion suite · Convert

Translate documents between formats without flattening the text underneath.

Most online converters quietly re-rasterise the page and call it 'converted'. FyPDF reads the actual document — paragraphs, tables, color profiles, page rotations — and writes them out in the format you asked for. The result is still a real document, ready for the next person to search, copy, or redline.

  • Text layer preserved
Outputs stay searchable and selectable when the source has a real text layer — no auto-OCR shortcuts.
  • Tables reconstructed
PDF → Excel rebuilds cells, headers, and merged regions instead of dumping stitched rows of text.
  • Most stay on-device
Image conversions run in the browser; only Word and Excel exports use a one-time encrypted session.
  • Batches with status
Drop a folder — every file converts in parallel and reports its own success or failure. One bad scan doesn't fail the run.

§01The Departures Board

Every conversion route, in one printed schedule — what you hand in, what you get back, and how it travels.

Two arrows tell the whole story: a red one means the document leaves PDF for somewhere else; an indigo one means it arrives at PDF from another format. Browser tools run on your machine. Cloud-enhanced tools open a one-time encrypted session for the heavy parsing.

§02The Fidelity Manifesto

Four promises a converter has to keep — and most quietly skip.

Conversion is a translation problem dressed up as a button. Every tool here commits to the same four guarantees so the document on the other side stays useful instead of collapsing into a flat picture.

The text layer survives

When the source PDF has selectable text, FyPDF keeps it as text — not a flattened picture. Outputs stay searchable, copyable, and indexable in the next tool that touches them.

Verified across PDF → Word, PDF → Excel, and image-back conversions on every render.

Tables stay tabular

PDF → Excel rebuilds the actual cell grid. Header rows are detected, merged regions are preserved, and numeric columns come back as numbers — not strings stitched together with commas.

One sheet per page · Header inference · Numeric & date detection · Merged-cell reconstruction.

Color & resolution honored

DPI choices apply per document, not as a batch average. Embedded ICC profiles are respected on the way in and the way out so brand colors don't drift between source and export.

1×, 2×, 3×, 4× export multipliers · Embedded ICC respected · Alpha preserved on PNG.

Batches don't fail halfway

Drop a folder. Every file gets its own slot, converts in parallel, and reports its own status. One corrupt scan in the middle never silently kills the whole run — it fails loudly so you can re-run just that one.

Per-file status · Parallel processing · Partial-success download · Error log per item.
Verified across every conversion in the suite
— fidelity is the difference between a copy and a translation.
§03The Translation Datasheets

Every conversion, with a printed key for — what survives, and what bends.

One spread per tool. Each lists exactly which document features survive untouched (left column, ✓) and which get transformed by the conversion (right column, →). No surprises in the output.

§04The Light Table

Three documents, before and after — same content, finally usable.

Watch what conversion is actually doing under the hood. Each light-table plate compares the document on the way in to the document on the way out — same source, but rebuilt into a shape the next workflow can use.

§05The Trade Cards

Five people who actually convert documents — every working day.

Conversion isn't a once-a-year task — it's a recurring ritual for the people listed here. Each card calls out the specific routes each persona keeps in their pocket.

  • The auditor

    Statements out, spreadsheets in

Bank statements and vendor invoices arrive as PDFs. The audit needs them in Excel by Friday — without typing them in by hand.

    Routes they reach for
    • PDF to Excel
      PDF → XLSX
    • PDF to JPG
PDF → JPG (for evidence packets)
  • The operations lead

Bind the receipt batch, send the report

Reimbursements come back as photos in Slack. The expense system wants one PDF per report — not twelve attachments named IMG_0042.

    Routes they reach for
    • Images to PDF
      JPG·PNG → PDF
    • JPG to PDF
      JPG → PDF
  • The legal redliner

Editable rebuild for the next round

Outside counsel sent the contract back as a PDF. Marking it up needs a real DOCX — paragraphs, headings, tracked changes — not a scan with sticky-note comments.

    Routes they reach for
    • PDF to Word
      PDF → DOCX
  • The designer

    Spec sheet, retina-grade

Spec PDFs need to land in the docs site as crisp 2× PNGs without fringing or dropped color. Same page renders at 4× for press exports.

    Routes they reach for
    • PDF to PNG
      PDF → PNG (1×–4×)
    • PNG to PDF
      PNG → PDF (proof copy)
  • The developer

    Reports in, PDFs out

CI runs render HTML release notes. The product team wants a sharable PDF in the same artifact bucket — no extra service, no third-party SDK in the build.

    Routes they reach for
    • Images to PDF
      PNG screenshots → PDF

§06The Margin Notes

What people actually ask before — they trust a converter.

Honest answers in the same voice as the rest of the site — no sales gloss. Every question lives openly on the page so the answer indexes in search and shows up when you ask it again.

  1. 01

    Q. What resolution should I pick when exporting PDF → PNG or JPG?

    Answer

1× matches the PDF's nominal page size (good for inline previews). 2× is the sweet spot for retina docs sites and modern email clients. 3× and 4× are useful for print proofs and high-DPI hand-offs but balloon file size — pick the smallest multiplier that still looks crisp at the target display size.

  2. 02

    Q. Why does my PDF → Word output sometimes lose visual formatting?

    Answer

Word's layout model is fundamentally different from PDF's — multi-column layouts have to re-flow into linear text, embedded fonts get mapped to the closest Word substitute, and decorative absolute positioning doesn't translate. The trade-off is that the output is a real, editable DOCX. If you want a pixel-identical visual, PDF → PNG/JPG is the right tool. If you want to redline it, PDF → Word is.

  3. 03

    Q. Can it convert scanned PDFs to editable Word or Excel?

    Answer

A scanned PDF is just a picture of a page — there's no text to extract until you OCR it. Run the file through FyPDF's OCR PDF tool first to add a real text layer, then send the OCR'd PDF through PDF → Word or PDF → Excel. The two-step path gives you both a searchable PDF and an editable export from the same source.

  4. 04

    Q. Are there limits on how many files I can batch in one go?

    Answer

Browser-side conversions (PDF ↔ image, JPG/PNG/Images → PDF) have no per-batch ceiling — they're limited only by the memory your browser tab can hold. Cloud-enhanced conversions (PDF → Word, PDF → Excel) cap at 200 MB per request, run in parallel, and report per-file status so a single failure doesn't kill the run.

  5. 05

    Q. Will the original page order be preserved across the conversion?

    Answer

Always — unless you explicitly reorder before output. PDF → image conversions emit files numbered to match source pages. Image → PDF lets you drag-to-reorder thumbnails before binding. PDF → Word and PDF → Excel keep the source page sequence as the document/sheet sequence in the output.

  6. 06

    Q. Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

    Answer

FyPDF won't process a password-protected PDF until you unlock it — that's a deliberate safety boundary, not a limitation. Use Unlock PDF first (with the password you have rights to use), then send the unlocked file straight into convert. Both tools live in the same workspace, so you don't have to re-upload between them.

  7. 07

    Q. Is round-tripping safe? PDF → DOCX → PDF and back?

    Answer

Round-tripping is supported, but every translation is a layout decision — fonts get re-mapped, lines re-flow, and small visual deltas accumulate. For collaborative editing it's the right workflow. For preserving an exact print-ready layout, keep one canonical source format and use convert only for one-way exports.

  8. 08

    Q. What input file formats are accepted across the convert track?

    Answer

Inputs span PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Outputs cover PNG, JPG, PDF, DOCX, and XLSX. Office round-trips (DOCX/XLSX/HTML → PDF) live one track over in Office for the rest of the format coverage.
